[MEI-L] Question about mRest, dur and dots in MEI 3 and 4

The odd thing:

If I replace the mRest with <rest dur="breve" dots="1"> in MEI Friend/Atom
with MEI.40 file, it works.

Dots are needed in our case because of a quirk in music21, which does not
read the prevailing time signature correctly (or at all), and thus reads
these rests (in our context) as 8-beat breves instead of 12-beat breves.

Including that dot attribute is enough to convince Music21 of the correct
count of the rests.
