Attribute: @s-shaped {n|e|s|w) (north, east, south, west; the direction of the initial long stroke, i.e., the standard letter S is “w”, its mirror shape is “e”, the letter turned 90-degrees on its side is “s”, and its mirror shape is “n”)
(As a matter of style, MEI adopts a camel-case method for naming its attributes, so this would be @sShaped)
This is problematic. If a line is written such that is not aligned perpendicular to the page edges, or it curves, or the page edges are not 90°) then from what baseline should the directional reference be?
It is imperative to remember that this will be used to encode the music notation, not describe the shapes on a page.
I would strongly suggest this be dropped, and another method of encoding the same information be developed.
