PLEASE CIRCULATE WIDELY

Greetings,

The MEI Board invites proposals for the organization of the 6th and 7th editions of the annual Music Encoding Conference, to be held in 2018 and 2019. In the past, annual hosting calls have been issued; however, the Board recently decided to request hosting bids for the next two years. We hope this will make the organizing process smoother.

As many of you are aware, among its activities MEI oversees the organization of an annual conference, the Music Encoding Conference (MEC), to provide a meeting place for scholars interested in discussing the modeling, generation and uses of music encoding. While the conference has an emphasis on the development and uses of MEI, other contributions related to general approaches to music encoding are always welcome, as an opportunity for exchanges between scholars from various research communities, including technologists, librarians, historians, and theorists.

The official conference hosting document, available at <http://music-encoding.org/community/conference/hosting/>, provides information and guidelines to prospective organizers. In addition to addressing the proposal requirements indicated there, applicants should clearly indicate which years they are willing to host, with the caveat that no institution may host the conference two consecutive years. Historically, the conference has been organized by institutions involved in MEI, such as MEI member institutions or those hosting MEI-based projects, but proposals from any interested group or institution will be happily received, and ideas other than those expressed in the official document are welcome.

The deadline for sending proposals is 15 April 2017. The Board will notify bidders of its decision by 1 May 2017. Successful bidders should be prepared to make a short presentation at the conference in Tours.

Please direct all proposals and inquiries to <info at music-encoding.org<mailto:info at music-encoding.org>>.

On behalf of the MEI Board, best wishes,

--
