[MEI-L] looking for advice/suggestions for encoding alternative realisations of duration

Hi Karen,
Attribute values on <staffDef> apply from the point in the file where they're encoded forward. Stating them in scoreDef/staffGrp/staffDef is redundant, but not wrong -- subject to the demands of Verovio, of course.

Dear Perry
Okay - great! It does seem that <orig> <reg> will work for our purposes then. Would these <mensur> values then temporarily override the @tempus values declared in staffDef or would you just not declare the @tempus in staffDef?
Best
Karen

Hi Karen,
A choice between multiple regularization methods can be represented using <choice>. Each <reg> may contain a <mensur> element to indicate a change in mensuration.
<staff>
<layer>
<choice>
<reg>
<!-- tempus perfectum -->
<mensur />
<note />
<note />
<note />
<note />
</reg>
<reg>
<!-- tempus imperfectum -->
<mensur />
<note />
<note />
<note />
<note />
</reg>
</choice>

</staff>
I don't know if Verovio supports this kind of markup yet.
Best wishes,
