[MEI-L] MEI-based catalogue of Carl Nielsen's works now online

Dear Morgan

Thank you! The incipit workflow is not very sophisticated, really. They are simply high resolution TIFF graphics exported from Sibelius, subsequently converted to low and medium resolution PNGs for online use. No MEI involved, unfortunately. The MEI files simply point to the graphics. 

Perhaps that is as far as we can get with the Nielsen catalogue, at least for now. We don't have the resources to build some MEI rendering software ourselves, so we have to wait until something is available elsewhere. The problem is also that the incipits are quite complex, especially the ones for the incidental and orchestral music; as far as I know, there are no MEI tools advanced enough to render them yet. Please correct me if I am wrong - I'd love to know about such tools!

We could of course encode the incipits in the MEI header anyway (if we hadn't anything else to do...), but as long as the means for further processing are lacking I don't think we will want to put a lot of work in it. We have some other catalogues in preparation (J.P.E. Hartmann, J.A. Scheibe) and plans for even more (Niels W. Gade and others). Perhaps in some of these future catalogues we will be able to handle MEI incipits.

We are keeping an eye on projects such as Verovio and a MEI-to-Lilypond workflow. By the way, we have another small project in preparation. The notation is very simple, though, so we have written a basic transformation to Lilypond (but very specific, so it's probably not useful for anything else). This allows us to produce both SVG and PDFs on the fly. I will make an announcement on the list when it is published.

Could you provide a very brief description of your workflow for creating incipits? I see the image files, but was MEI involved upstream?
