[MEI-L] next steps

Raffaele,
Actually, your observation that <supplied> isn't allowed with <measure> has got me thinking. Looking at <dynam><supplied>...</supplied></dynam> my stomach began to turn. :(
It might be possible to allow such a thing, but it would require changes in the m.textinline class. Let me work on it a bit.

Hello Perry,
thank you very much for your feedback. I had a look at it and I'll redesign the encoding following your advice.
Cheers,
Raffaele

All,
I created an mei19 directory within branches and created DTD and Documents directories within that. With this all the test files in Documents can refer to the DTD one directory above.
I also put my edited version of Raffaele's Syrinx file in Documents.

Hello all,
I would like to thank you all for Dugstuhl. It's been fun and I think it can really be the starting point for some good work.
I agree with Johannes regarding how to proceed. I think we agreed on ODD, and I think that the current version of MEI should get ODDified soon. During the ODDification, problems and questions will probably arise, and I'm glad we set up these tools to communicate easily.
I would like to add a comment about TEI. As we all now, MEI has many elements in common with TEI, and even though I agree that MEI needs to be a standalone encoding (and community), I think that we should at least put an explicit reference to TEI's elements in the ODDs. I'm still not sure how we should deal with this, I only know that, in general, duplications are not good.
Regarding the ODDification, I'll try to do my best, but my knowledge of ODD is limited. I hope that we can count on Lou and Sebastian as well (Gabriel doesn't know much more than me).
On another note, I have encoded the first section of "Syrinx". It's only 8 bars, but some problems arose already (meanwhile I keep working on the remaining section and I'll soon update my data).
I created a page on the wiki with my comments.
http://muwimedial.de/mei/index.php/ExSyrinx
It would be great if you could comment on my comments and give me some suggestions/feedback.
The file is on svn under trunk/Raffaele and there is an image of the score as well.
Let's keep up the good work!
Hope to hear from you soon,
Raffaele

Hello all,
as Daniel was faster than me (but he didn't mention http://wiki.mei-c.org
) the only remaining things to write for me are concerning with our
next steps. These are just a suggestion and open for discussion. I'm
certainly not the one to set the rules for anything, so feel free to
disagree…
Hopefully, we'll get this grant from the DFG/NEH. In that case we will
meet again in this year's summer (and perhaps there is a way to get
Raffaele in the group), and have a second meeting in the first half of
2010. From my perspective, we should have an official release of MEI
1.0 at the end of this second meeting. The meetings are (at least
partially) meant for trying to encode actual musical examples, which
means that we need to have a stable version much earlier. As we all
basically agree on using ODD (do we?), I think that Raffaele's
generous offer to spend some time on the transfer will really help us.
Daniel and me will help as much as we can, but we cannot promise too
much at the moment. It would be a great step if we could have the
current MEI version ODDified till the first meeting of the project. We
will hear about the success of our application probably at the end of
April. If we're not funded, I guess we'll have to do the work without
this kind of support. In that case we'd have a much smaller group of
scholars, basically being the ones that are currently on this list.
Therefore I suggest: Perry switches to Laurent's SVN for further
changes on the DTDs. There have to be no unversioned changes anymore.
Raffaele takes responsibility for the transition to ODD. He uses only
the DTDs from the SVN, and only after making sure that Perry will not
work on these DTDs until the transition is complete. Daniel and
Johannes will be directed by Raffaele. Laurent and Johannes (and
perhaps Raffaele with his Syrinx example) will try to encode some
examples to detect problems and get material for interchange…
Is this reasonable in your eyes?
The initiative with Ted seems to be a separate development branch of
MEI in my eyes, which should not keep us from working on the current
release. Right?
It was a pleasure to meet all of you at Dagstuhl, and I'm sure that we
can achieve quite a lot if we stay that productive. Thanks for your
participance!!!
Johannes
