Dear MEI community members,
as announced in the community meeting today, the Board has agreed on an amended version of the MEI By-laws which integrates the community comments we had received in the last days and weeks. Thank you for all your input!
The proposed changes aim to clarify some things and to codify existing practice of other things. Focal changes are the explicit accomodation of any type of music notation, not only Western, in section 2 ("Purpose"), the clarification of Personal and Institutional membership in section 3 ("Membership"), clarification of the format of IG reports in section 8 ("Interest groups"), and the explicit integration of appointed offices of the Board and a fine-tuning of the election procedure. Other changes concern minor corrections to wording.
Options to view the proposed changes include:
1) a compiled overview of the changes in a GoogleDoc (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Kg46Nw-D8Pe7dj341-NH-9UaFy5Ksw7tlJ7x_syqvug/edit?usp=sharing)
2) a "diff" in the Pull Request on GitHub (https://github.com/music-encoding/music-encoding.github.io/pull/234/files)
According to the last chapter of the By-laws, "the agreed upon version of the amended by-laws will be presented to the MEI membership for voting over a minimum 7-day period. The amended version of the by-laws must pass with a two-thirds (2/3) majority of votes in order to become effective." (see https://music-encoding.org/community/mei-by-laws.html#10-amendments)
We invite you to leave your "agree" or "not agree" via a mentimeter poll: https://www.menti.com/235xvose1h
The vote will be open until Thursday, 29 July, 21.30 CEST.
Thank you,
Stefan
