Dear Giuliano,

as you know, I'm writing my M.A. thesis on digital editions of
mensural notation, for which I'm transcribing and encoding a source of
the 16th century. But that is just one part of my thesis, the other
part will be a short review on the possibilities and limits of digital
editions, problems while encoding (and decoding) etc.

For this second part, I would like to ask some questions about the
work on digital editions: What are the possible uses of machine
readable music-code? Of course I know, that MEI is still work in
progress and that many tools are about to be developed, but are there
any tools yet that are able to analyze a piece of music or to do
something else with it (beyond displaying it more or less correctly)?

As you are Director of the CHMTL and therefore related to the
Thesaurus Musicarum Latinarum, I hope you can help me finding some
answers on the limits that music encoding has today. Maybe you
encountered unsovable problems during setting up the TML, or problems
that are solved now? It would really help me with my thesis, if I
could find all those answers.

With best regards,
Daniel
