In case you haven't seen it already, I'd like to call your attention to Tim Crawford and Richard Lewis' wonderful review of MEI in the Journal of the American Musicological Society, Vol. 69 No. 1, Spring 2016 (pp. 273-285) DOI: 10.1525/jams.2016.69.1.273.
