Dear Community,

I can't resist to respond to this E-Mail, since this is probably one of the most important moments in the history of MEI. We do have by-laws now, which shows both the maturity that MEI has gained over the last few years and the appreciation it gets from the larger scholarly community. It is astounding to see where we stand when looking back where we were only five years ago, and together with Perry, I would like to thank all of you for your contributions, endurance, and passion about MEI. I'm especially proud that we reached this by consensus, which has been Perry's wise guiding principle since the very beginning of MEI. This is really a great community achievement!

However, I would like to highlight the hard work that our "strategy group" had with moderating us, preparing drafts, revising them, and keep everything on track. Without your dedication, it wouldn't have been possible – thank you Christine, Giuliano, Axel, Laurent, Andrew, Dave, Anna and especially Benni.

For now, I can only encourage people to stand for election for the new Board. MEI needs your input now, and it seems clear that we need a lot of input from non-technicians as well. Even if you don't know all 50+ attributes a note may have in MEI right away, you definitely have some skills that others may not have. In Charlottesville we agreed that we will continue our technical team as a separate group, so there is no reason to not stand for election. Our community spreads across different fields of scholarship, and I believe we need that diversity in the Board as well.

All the best,
Johannes

Two comments with regard to contents have been left unimplemented; but nevertheless commented and obvious for future inspection by the Board.
