Well, my main and initial concern (as described in section 3.3 starting 
on p. 13) is to have a converter from MEI to LilyPond input so LilyPond 
can engrave scores encoded in MEI. Conversion to LaTeX would be an 
additional step which is probably less complex, maybe this has even been 
addressed somewhere (I don't know), maybe in the TEI context.

Ideally there should also be a LilyPond-to-MEI converter, and my vision 
would be to create a sitiation where (using the existing technology in 
Frescobaldi (http://frescobaldi.org), which can create a DOM from a 
LilyPond input file or a LilyPond input file from a DOM) MEI and 
LilyPond "encodings" can be treated as two alternative "views" on the 
DOM of a document.
