MuseData (http://www.musedata.org), from the Center for Computer Assisted
Research in the Humanities at Stanford University (www.ccarh.org), is a
synchronized set of encoded symbolic data. Conversions to MIDI files, PDF
score files, and to other formats (e.g. Humdrum kern, for analytical use
in music theory and analysis) are in progress. The main holdings are for
major composers of c. 1690-1830: Bach, Corelli, Handel, Vivaldi, Haydn,
Mozart, and Beethoven.

The main principles are explained on our Nine Symphonies of Beethoven
page: http://www.ccarh.org/publications/beethoven-symphonies/
