From atge at kb.dk Wed Apr 19 14:32:15 2017 From: atge at kb.dk (Axel Teich Geertinger) Date: Wed, 19 Apr 2017 12:32:15 +0000 Subject: [mei-catalog-ig] Metadata and cataloging IG meeting in Tours Message-ID: <8f4308bf8c4b40339a67bbf2a24aeec4@kb.dk> Dear all In just a month many of us will meet in Tours - so I hope! As usual, there is reserved a time slot at the end of the conference for self-organized activities such as the interest group meetings, that is, Friday at 10:00, after the community meeting. I know there has been very little activity on the mailing list since we met in Montreal. None, actually. Also, work on the "metadata manual" has not progressed as promised. That is definitely my fault to a great extent, for which I sincerely apologize. As it is about time to make travel arrangements, I would like to know whether there are any suggestions for topics to discuss or presentations you would like to make during a metadata group session. If not, I am tempted to skip the group meeting this year and postpone it to next year if needed. Of course, we could also meet just to inform each other briefly about the progress of our current projects. Please let me know your thoughts in order to decide whether to meet in Tours. I would like to emphasize that I do not see the group's silence as a sign of indifference or low activity in general. On the contrary, I suspect that the MEI header has now reached a level of maturity and scope that satisfies most projects at this time. In Copenhagen at least we are now concentrated on the production of (meta-)data rather than the development of the schema and how to work with it. BTW, if you are interested in the MerMEId metadata editor I suggest that you subscribe to the MerMEId Newsletter: http://www.kb.dk/en/nb/dcm/projekter/mermeid.html (sign up in the right column). An archive of previous newsletters is found here: http://us14.campaign-archive2.com/home/?u=b14f54cf7b3c6654a3909c990&id=4cce1a9392 . As you will see, we announced the release of a new version of MerMEId supporting the MEI 3.0.0 schema a couple of weeks ago. But the plan is now to have this workshop in autumn 2017 - so we thought it would be a good opportunity to at least plan the details for this workshop in Tours: topics, presentations, participants etc. I think that this planning meeting will not take more than one or two hours (maximum!) but it would be very helpful to leave the conference with a fixed schedule for this meeting which will certainly cause new discussions about some details in the head(er) (of MEI...). I suggest the following agenda: - A brief report from each the projects. This includes a summary from me of recent and future developments on the MerMEId editor - Planning of the metadata workshop to be held at the Academy in Mainz this fall - A discussion of the MEI header (schema): Are we done? Or are there any problems, misconceptions, things missing, etc.? I do not expect the meeting to last more than about two or three hours (max.). Looking forward to seeing you soon!
