16th TEAR 2021 - New frontiers

In collaboration with IEEE CBI 2021 and IEEE EDOC 2021

Since 2006 the international TEAR workshop series<http://sea-01.cit.frankfurt-university.de:32224/?dmVyPTEuMDAxJiY3ZjU3Nzg1MDdlNGQzMmVkMT02MDc5M0ExM181ODc1Nl8xODA2MF8xJiYzNjZiMmFlZTA0YjFkMDY9MTIzMyYmdXJsPWh0dHAlM0ElMkYlMkZ3d3clMkV0ZWFyLXNlcmllcyUyRW9yZyUyRg==> has brought together Enterprise Architecture (EA) researchers and practitioners from different research communities, and has provided a forum to present EA research results from academia and practice and to discuss future EA research directions. This year’s TEAR workshop will see a new online format, while addressing new frontiers in EA-related research.

New frontiers in EA-related research

The field of Enterprise Architecture (EA) has gained considerable maturity over the last years. EA significantly contributes to organizations’ need to adapt increasingly fast to changing customer requirements and business goals.

New societal and technological (including AI, IoT, Digital Twins, etc) trends now provide new challenges and opportunities to the field of EA. What remains core to EA is the need for a multi-disciplinary approach aiming for a coherent design of enterprises across all relevant aspects, such as services, processes, IT support, the role of human actors, etc. Therefore, there is a need to consider new frontiers in EA research, taking us into the direction of what might be termed “Enterprise Governance 4.0”. Therefore this year’s TEAR workshop has a broadened scope, including several new topics:

  *   Enterprise governance 4.0 - Including the use of Enterprise Digital Twins, AI and IoT to support the governance and management of enterprises, and their coherence, in all their facets.
  *   Enterprise cyber risk management - Managing cyber risks, which include e.g. cyber security risks, but also other risks, such as the negative consequences of AI-based errors, systemic ripple effects, etc.
  *   Digital transformation - Consequences for EA (or the role of EA in) digital transformation, including e.g. migration to data stream architectures, big data, IoT, etc.
  *   Enterprise architecture decision-making and decision-execution -  Including drivers for change, architecture governance, stakeholder management, etc.
  *   Enterprise architecture modeling and analysis - Including modeling languages,  model-based analysis and analytics, reference models, viewpoints, human-model interaction, etc.
  *   Relevant research approaches in terms of research methodologies and theories.
  *   Cases and implementations

We cordially invite submissions of three types of paper, reporting on original research results related to EA that have not been accepted or submitted for publication elsewhere:

  1.  Regular research papers. These papers will be reviewed based on their scientific and technical contribution, originality, and relevance.
  2.  Emergent research papers. These papers involve novel research ideas and challenges (by doctoral students, practitioners, or senior researchers) related to EA.
  3.  Experience reports. These papers reflect practical and personal industry experiences of EA practitioners, including EA related challenges seen and the approach(es) taken. These papers are advised to follow the STARR template (Situation, Tasks, Actions, Results, and Reflection).

New workshop format

The workshop is organized, in a collaboration between the IEEE CBI 2021<http://sea-01.cit.frankfurt-university.de:32224/?dmVyPTEuMDAxJiYzODExMmQwMzNkNGUyNGZlMD02MDc5M0ExM181ODc1Nl8xODA2MF8xJiY0NjFhM2FlZTA1MTAxMDg9MTIzMyYmdXJsPWh0dHBzJTNBJTJGJTJGY2JpMjAyMSUyRWV2ZW50cyUyRXVuaWJ6JTJFaXQlMkY=> (September 1-3) and the IEEE EDOC 2021 (October 25-29) conferences. The workshop part of TEAR 2021 will take place during CBI 2021 (both events will take place online) in terms of a writer's workshop format that more explicitly focuses on in-depth discussions of the paper submissions with the aim to improve these papers further. During the writer's workshop the strengths and weaknesses of the different papers will be discussed, while accentuating positive aspects and suggesting improvements. As such, an active participation of the authors and audience is expected.

Improved (in the sense of maturing and / or extending) high-quality papers will be accepted to an EA track at the EDOC 2021 conference. Based on the paper submitted to the writer’s workshop, and the presentations and discussions during the writer’s workshop, a selection of papers will be made which potentially qualify for EDOC 2021 inclusion. These papers will be shepherded by an experienced reviewer from the EA community, towards potential EDOC 2021 inclusion.

This new workshop format aims to help authors in maturing their papers, while also creating a more open and constructive review and feedback process.

Submissions

Papers should describe innovative and significant original research relevant to TEAR as described in the topics section. Papers submitted for consideration must not have been published elsewhere and must not be under review or submitted for review elsewhere during the duration of consideration. Submissions solicited below will be reviewed by the program committee based on relevance, rigor, novelty, replicability, and quality. All submissions that have been accepted will be subject to shepherding by a designated committee member.

Papers submitted to the writer’s workshop must not exceed 10 pages and conform to the IEEE submission guidelines. All submissions should include title, authors, and full contact information.
