    <div class="moz-cite-prefix">Dear Ichiro,<br>
      <br>
      I find your encoding examples very useful.  One thing I'd suggest
      is to make clear that "waves" is a more detailed description of
      the quilisma so that its meaning isn't weakened if encoders use it
      for other purposes.  I can think of the following approaches:<br>
      <ul>
        <li>Use Schematron to ensure @waves is only used where there is
          @ncsign="quilisma"</li>
        <li>Rename it to @quilisma.waves (and also use Schematron to
          enforce @ncsign="quilisma")<br>
        </li>
        <li>make quilisma an element:    <br>
          <pre><nc>
    <quilisma waves="2"/>
</nc>
</pre>
        </li>
      </ul>
      I'd handle the @s-shaped attribute for oriscus similarly.<br>
      <br>
      The element approach is of course more radical and would replace
      the @ncsign approach.  I think <oriscus> and
      <quilisma> are fundamental enough in neumatic notation that
      we can justify giving them their own elements, but adding elements
      should always be well considered.<br>

      More in a separate post...<br>
