Dear MEI-list,

Richard Sutcliffe, Tim Crawford, Ed Hovy and Deane Root are proposing a task at MediaEval 2014 which might be of interest to members of this group. It is a combination of natural language processing and musical score analysis.

Participants each build a computer system over the coming months which can take as input a natural language noun phrase (e.g. 'harmonic perfect fifth') and a short classical music score in machine-readable form (e.g. J.S. Bach, Suite No. 3 in C Major for Cello,
BWV 1009, Sarabande) and return an answer stating the location of the requested feature (e.g. 'Bar 206').

The proposal can be found at this URL:

Results will be compared in October in Barcelona.

Would you be interested in taking part or do you know anyone who might be? If so we wonder if you could consider going to
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/mediaeval2014, within it going to task number two - Camerata -, say you are interested in participating and then submit the questionnaire. The level of
interest decides whether it will go ahead.
Best wishes,
