<p>This is by design. <syl> permits <rend>, which is a member of att.color. The goal was to limit the number of members of att.color and encourage the use of <rend> for such things.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The downside to this, of course, is that color has to be specified for each syllable and can't be stated at the <verse> level. So, making <verse> a member of att.color is probably a good idea. Still, I'd prefer not to do the same with <syl>.</p>

<div>Neither verse or syl seem to be members of att.color (which means that the @color attribute is not allowed). Is this by design? If yes, how can I color my lyrics? Otherwise, if we agree that there's no harm in having @color for lyrics, I'll file a feature
request.</div>
