I suspect that it wasn't successful because they applied for the standards track, and not the vendor-specific track. The former needs to be published by a recognized standards committee, while the latter can be more free but needs to have 'vnd.' prepended.

So I use .xml regularly. Not a big fan of .mei, .tei, .odd that I see around sometimes. It's possibly a small thing, but I just see that as a file association nightmare in any OS :P

I've been assuming .mei is the "standard", but a counter-example of .xml was recently brought to my attention. So, I thought I'd poll the collected wisdom and see what others were doing. Are you using .xml, .mei, or some other variation on these?<br>
