[MEI-L] @dur on <beamSpan>

I'm wondering why @dur on <beamSpan> is from att.duration.timestamp
rather than att.duration.musical or something along the lines of
att.tupletSpan.log.  AFAICS, using @tstamp and @dur, it's not possible
to define start and end points of constellations like a group of three
beamed eighths as the "musical" @dur can only describe powers of two.
Shouldn't this be possible?
