Each post has different application deadlines and contact information.<br><br>-----------------------------------------------------------------<br><br>Title: Special Scientist<br>Category: 1 Year Contract (subject to renewal)<br><br>The research laboratory of Software Engineering and Internet Technologies<br>(SEIT) of the Department of Computer Science, University of Cyprus,<br>announces one full time Special Scientist position in Technology Enhanced<br>Learning for two Erasmus+ projects that the SEIT Lab coordinates.<br><br>SEIT focuses its research activities on two important areas of Information<br>Technology, namely Software Engineering and Internet Technologies. In the<br>first area, SEIT focuses on Cloud Computing, Service Oriented Architectures,<br>Context-Aware Middleware Platforms and Smart and Mobile Computing for<br>the development of pervasive, self-adaptive applications and Smart IoT<br>services. In the second area, the Laboratory concentrates on the development<br>of ICT-enabled Environments, platforms and tools for implementing Health<br>monitoring and support services, Smart and Personalised services for Elders,<br>Assistive Technologies for people with disabilities and Creativity services. The<br>lab also pursues activities related to Technology Enhanced Learning,<br>E-Business, EGovernment and developing environments for elders' social<br>inclusion, active ageing and independent living. Finally, the lab's research is<br>also related to Creativity, Recommender Systems and Crowd Sourcing.<br><br>The candidate is expected to be a highly-motivated individual with proven<br>capability to work in a demanding multi-disciplinary research environment<br>and eager to be actively engaged in the demanding activities of European<br>projects, collaborating efficiently with the SEIT research team. The successful<br>candidate will also be involved in research proposals in various EU<br>programmes for which the SEIT Lab participates/contributes to.<br><br>Minimum requirements:<br>1. Masters Degree in the above mentioned areas.<br>2. Experience in E.U. funded projects related to ICT.<br>3. Proven research work in one or more of the following areas:<br>Technology Enhanced Learning, Educational Technologies, Digital<br>technologies.<br><br>A PhD degree in the above areas will be strongly considered as a favourable<br>qualification. Expertise in ICT, Web development, e-Government will be<br>considered as a favourable qualification.<br><br>The successful applicant will be primarily involved in two Erasmus+ projects,<br>for which the SEIT lab is the coordinating partner. The VeLoCiTy project will<br>develop an innovative virtual world environment, offering in this way high<br>quality learning opportunities for unemployed and misemployed adults to<br>adapt to different working environments and interviews, thus addressing<br>the problem of job finding in different countries with different cultures and<br>practices. The World-of-Physics project aims to assist students in studying<br>the Physics domain with the utilization of innovative technologies like virtual<br>reality.<br><br>The position is on a contract basis of one year, subject to renewal. Candidates should be graduates in Computer Science or Computer<br>Engineering or have a Master or PhD degree in a relevant scientific area.<br>2. Knowledge of Software Engineering processes (Agile development, Github).<br>3. Strong programming skills for building Web applications (HTML5, CSS3,<br>JavaScript, PHP) and database management (SQL).<br>4. Knowledge and experience with game engines and development<br>environments (i.e., Unity) is strongly encouraged.<br>5. Very good knowledge of English.<br><br>The successful candidate will work on the CyberSafety (Safer Internet) project:<br>CyberSafety brings together major national stakeholders of Cyprus in order to<br>create a safe internet culture for young people, empowering creative,<br>innovative and critical citizens in the digital society. CyberSafety aims to<br>create an awareness platform, where actors can find resources and tools,<br>share experiences, expertise and best practices. The<br>project is led by the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas-FORTH,<br>Greece, and the consortium includes the University of Cyprus (Departments of<br>Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering), Cyprus,<br>Fraunhofer IZM, Germany, SignalGenerix Ltd, Cyprus, NanoNetworking Center<br>of Catalunya-UPC-N3CAT, Spain, and Aalto University, Finland.<br><br>The project will undertake the ambitious goal of providing programming<br>concepts and algorithms in crafting the electromagnetic/light behavior of<br>materials (Metamaterials). VISORSURF aims to develop a hardware platform <br>-the HyperSurface- that can host metasurface functionalities described in<br>software, enabled via a network of nanonodes (Nanonetwork) embeded in the<br>HyperSurface, adding the potential for hosting multiple functionalities<br>concurrently and adaptively. <br><br>We are seeking two highly-motivated researchers with a PhD degree in an<br>area related to the project, and with proven capability to work in a demanding<br>multi-disciplinary research environment and eager to be actively engaged in<br>the demanding activities of FET European projects, collaborating efficiently<br>with the project research teams. The two positions qualifications are as<br>outlined below: <br><br>Position 1: The applicants should have general knowledge in Computer<br>Networks, and proven research work in as many of the following areas:<br>Routing and dissemination protocols, Nanonetworks, Nature-Inspired<br>Techniques applied in Communication Networks, and Simulation<br>and Evaluation of Communication (Nano)Networks.<br><br>Position 2: The applicants should have general knowledge of formal methods<br>and expertise in model checking as well as a good knowledge of<br>programming languages, and distributed computing/systems. Candidates<br>should demonstrate strong programming and formal modelling skills and the<br>expertise and commitment to apply rigorous semantics to real systems.<br>Familiarity with nanonetworks will be helpful but is not necessary for the<br>position. <br><br>The position is on a contract basis of one year, subject to renewal, with a<br>maximum duration extending to the end of the project.
