This workshop aims to bring together researchers working in the communities of Constraint/Logic Programming (e.g., ICLP and CP), Program Verification (e.g., CAV, TACAS, and VMCAI), and Automated Deduction (e.g., CADE), on the topic of Horn clause based analysis, verification and synthesis. Horn clauses for verification and synthesis have been advocated by these communities at different times and from different perspectives, and this workshop is organized to stimulate interaction and a fruitful exchange and integration of experiences. The workshop follows three previous meetings: HCVS 2016 in Eindhoven, The Netherlands (w/ETAPS), HCVS 2015 in San Francisco, CA, USA (w/CAV), and HCVS 2014 in Vienna, Austria (w/VSL). Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the use of Horn clauses, constraints, and related formalisms in the following areas: - Analysis and verification of programs and systems of various kinds (e.g., imperative, object-oriented, functional, logic, higher-order, concurrent) - Program synthesis - Program testing - Program transformation - Constraint solving - Type systems - Case studies and tools - Challenging problems We solicit regular papers describing theory and implementation of Horn-clause based analysis and tool descriptions. We also solicit extended abstracts describing work-in-progress, as well as presentations covering previously published results that are of interest to the workshop. Aims and Scope ============== This workshop aims at discussing and exchanging experience on the design, implementation, and optimization of logic, constraint (logic) programming systems, and other systems based on logic as a means to express computations. Experience backed up by real implementations and their evaluation will be given preference, as well as descriptions of work in progress in that direction. Topics include, but are not limited to: * Sequential implementation schemes (abstract machines, translation to other languages, etc.). * Implementation of concurrent and distributed logic and constraint programming systems. * Implementation of type inference and type checking systems for logic and constraint programming languages. * Compile-time analysis and its application to code generation. * Balance between compile-time effort and run-time machinery, dynamic compilation. * Interaction between high-level optimizations / transformations / specialization and low-level issues. * Memory management and garbage collection issues. * Indexing techniques and optimizations for large size programs. * Optimizations for program generated logic and constraint programs. * Implementation of logic engines in functional and object oriented languages. * Embedding of logic and constraint programming engines in multi-paradigm systems. * Implementation techniques for alternative logic engines and inference mechanisms (ASP, SAT, QSAT, DL etc.). * Implementation of theorem provers, proof assistants and logic based natural language processing systems. * Implementation of object and agent-oriented extensions to logic and constraint programming languages. * Object and module systems. * Design and implementation of declarative I/O concepts for logic and constraint programming languages. * Implementations and ports of logic and constraint programming systems for mobile phones and netbooks. * Documenting, debugging, testing, and profiling tools for logic and constraint programming systems. * Novel compilation methods to modern hardware (e.g. GPUs). Workshop Goals ============== Our intent is to bring together, in an informal setting, people involved in research on sequential and parallel implementation technologies for logic and constraint programming languages and systems, in order to promote the exchange of ideas and feedback on recent developments. We hope that the workshop will provide a meeting point for people working on implementation technology for different aspects of logic and constraint-based languages and systems. Paper Submissions ================= The workshop will welcome all short papers that are technically sound and on-topic, including contributions to theory, reports of interesting applications, reports of work in progress, experience papers, suggestions for new challenging problems, system descriptions, comparison and discussion papers, and improvements to known results/proofs/implementations. All papers must be written in English and should not exceed 15 pages. We welcome also shorter submissions, e.g., extended abstracts and short papers, of at least 3 pages. For all accepted papers, at least one author is required to attend the workshop and give a presentation of 30 minutes including discussion. Submissions must be made in Springer's LNCS format (https://www.springer.com/gp/authors-editors/conference-proceedings/conference-proceedings-guidelines) via the page: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ciclops2017. A program committee consisting of members from different research groups in the area will review the submissions on EasyChair. Papers will be reviewed by at least two, and usually three, referees. Proceedings =========== The informal workshop proceedings will be available on-line at the Computing Research Repository after the workshop. An electronic copy will also be distributed during the conference. Program Committee ================= Paul Bone (Mozilla) Mats Carlsson (SICS) Michael Hanus (CAU Kiel) Jose F. Examples of EBS include graphical user interfaces (GUIs), web applications, mobile applications, network protocols, embedded software, web services, device drivers, and IoT systems. One of the key properties of EBS is the simplified, implicit interaction between components that is based on the exchange of events. The interaction is limited to one component publishing an event that can be received by one or more other components, with no inherent coordination, continuation or context preservation. Due to the loose coupling and the implicit interaction between its components, event-based systems may be highly scalable and easy to evolve, but at the same time they can be more difficult to test and debug. Effective strategies, techniques and tools are needed for addressing all the critical aspects of EBS testing and their effectiveness should be experimented with different types of EBS. Topics: * Web and Web Service Testing * Mobile Testing * EBS Mutation Testing * EBS Test Coverage Analysis * EBS Testing Tools and Environments * Test Patterns for EBS * Model Based Testing of EBS * EBS Regression Testing * GUI Based Testing of EBS * Testing of Embedded EBS * Performance, Robustness and Security testing of EBS * Industrial Experiences with EBS Automated Testing * Experimentation and Benchmarking in EBS Testing * Dynamic analysis for reverse engineering of EBS systems Paper submission We solicit novel papers related to testing (functional, non-functional, security) of EBS, or on the topic of benchmarking. Papers should be of one of the following types: * Research paper (8 pages) * Position paper (4 pages) * Tool demo paper (4 pages) * Industry presentations (2 pages overview and 2 example slides) Each paper in the first three categories (full, position and demo) will be reviewed by at least three referees. Papers should be submitted as PDF files in standard ACM two-column conference format (Latex, Word). Industrial presentations are submitted in the form of a 2-page overview and 2 sample presentation slides as pdf files. They will be evaluated by at least two members of the Program Committee for relevance and soundness. Papers accepted for the workshop will appear in the ACM digital library, providing a lasting archived record of the workshop proceedings. Papers will be submitted through EasyChair. The authors of the best papers will be invited to submit extended versions for a special issue of scientific journal. Nowadays, complex systems of all types, like Web-based systems, data centers and cloud infrastructures, social networks, peer-to-peer, mobile and wireless systems, cyber-physical systems, the Internet of Things, real-time and embedded systems, have increasingly distributed and dynamic system architectures that provide high flexibility, however, also increase the complexity of managing end-to-end application performance. ICPE brings together researchers and industry practitioners to share and present their experiences, discuss challenges, and report state-of-the-art and in-progress research on performance engineering of software and systems, including performance measurement, modeling, benchmark design, and run-time performance management. The focus is both on classical metrics such as response time, throughput, resource utilization, and (energy) efficiency, as well as on the relationship of such metrics to other system properties including but not limited to scalability, elasticity, availability, reliability, and security. This year's main theme is “continuous performance assurance in agile delivery”. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: Performance modeling of software * Languages and ontologies * Methods and tools * Relationship/integration/tradeoffs with other QoS attributes * Analytical, simulation and statistical modeling methodologies * Model validation and calibration techniques * Automatic model extraction * Performance modeling and analysis tools Performance and software development processes/paradigms * Software performance patterns and anti-patterns * Software/performance tool interoperability (models and data interchange formats) * Performance-oriented design, implementation and configuration management * Software Performance Engineering and Model-Driven Development * Gathering, interpreting and exploiting software performance annotations and data * System sizing and capacity planning techniques * (Model-driven) Performance requirements engineering * Relationship between performance and architecture * Collaboration of development and operation (DevOps) for performance * Performance and agile methods * Performance in Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA) * Performance of microservice architectures and containers Performance measurement, monitoring and analysis * Performance measurement and monitoring techniques * Analysis of measured application performance data * Application tracing and profiling * Workload characterization techniques * Experimental design * Tools for performance testing, measurement, profiling and tuning Benchmarking * Performance metrics and benchmark suites * Benchmarking methodologies * Development of parameterizable, flexible benchmarks * Benchmark workloads and scenarios * Use of benchmarks in industry and academia Run-time performance management * Use of models at run-time * Online performance prediction * Autonomic resource management * Utility-based optimization * Capacity management Power and performance, energy efficiency * Power consumption models and management techniques * Tradeoffs between performance and energy efficiency * Performance-driven resource and power management Performance modeling and evaluation in different environments and application domains * Web-based systems, e-business, Web services * Big data systems, deep-learning systems, and other data analytics systems * Internet of Things * Social networks * Cyber-physical systems * Industrial Internet (Industry 4.0) * Virtualization and cloud computing * Autonomous/adaptive systems * Transaction-oriented systems * Communication networks * Parallel and distributed systems * Embedded systems * Multi-core systems * Cluster and grid computing environments * High performance computing * Event-based systems * Real-time and multimedia systems * Low-latency systems * Peer-to-peer, mobile and wireless systems All other topics related to performance of software and systems. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ SUBMISSION GUIDELINES Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished papers that are not being considered in another forum. A variety of contribution styles for papers is solicited including: basic and applied research papers for novel scientific insights, industrial and experience papers reporting on applying performance engineering or benchmarks in practice, and work-in-progress/vision papers for ongoing innovative work. Applying formal methods may involve the usage of different formalisms and different analysis techniques to validate a system, either because individual components are most amenable to one formalism or technique, because one is interested in different properties of the system, or simply to cope with the sheer complexity of the system. The iFM conference series seeks to further research into hybrid approaches to formal modeling and analysis; i.e., the combination of (formal and semi-formal) methods for system development, regarding both modeling and analysis. The conference covers all aspects from language design through verification and analysis techniques to tools and their integration into software engineering practice.
