The traditional approach of securing a system has been to create defensive walls such as intrusion detection systems and firewalls around it, but there are always cracks in these walls, and thus such measures are no longer sufficient by themselves. We need to be able to build better, more robust and more "inherently" secure systems, and we should strive to achieve these qualities in all software systems, not just in the ones that "obviously" need special protection. This workshop will focus on techniques, experiences and lessons learned for engineering secure and dependable software. Topics ==== Suggested topics include, but are not limited to: - Secure architecture and design - Security in agile software development - Aspect-oriented software development for secure software - Security requirements - Risk management in software projects - Secure implementation - Secure deployment - Testing for security - Quantitative measurement of security properties - Static and dynamic analysis for security - Verification and assurance techniques for security properties - Security and usability - Design and deployment of secure services - Secure composition and adaptation of services - Teaching secure software development - Lessons learned - Experience reports on successfully attuning developers to secure software engineering Important Dates ========== - March 30, 2013: Submission Deadline - May 7, 2013: Author Notification - June 1, 2013: Camera Ready and Author Registration - September 3, 2013: Workshop Submission Guidelines ============== Papers have a page limit of 10 pages and must adhere to the CPS Proceedings Manuscripts style (two columns, single-spaced, including figures and references, using 10 pt fonts, and number each page). The use of software in medical devices has caused growing concerns in relation to safety and efficacy. The increasing adoption of health information systems provides great potential benefits but also poses severe risks, both with respect to security and privacy and in regard to patient safety. Hospital and other information systems raise important issues of workflow support and interoperability. Regulators, manufacturers and clinical users have pointed out the need to research sound and science-based engineering methods that facilitate the development and certification of quality ICT systems in health care. Such methods may draw from or combine techniques from various disciplines, including but not limited to software engineering, electronic engineering, computing science, information science, mathematics, and industrial engineering. AIMS The purpose of the symposium series on Foundations of Health Information Engineering and Systems is to promote a nascent research area that aims to develop and apply theories and methods from a variety of disciplines for the purpose of modeling, building and certifying software-intensive ICT systems in healthcare. A particular objective of FHIES is to explicitly include a focus on healthcare ICT applications in the developing world (in addition to systems used in the developed countries), since unique engineering challenges arise in that special setting. Because humans often play a pivotal role in the process of using such systems, theories from the human factors engineering community may need to be integrated with methods from the technology-oriented domains in order to create effective engineering methodologies for socio-technical systems in the healthcare domain. Previous FHIES symposia were held in 2011, in Mabalingwe, South Africa (with post-conference proceedings in Springer LNCS 7151, and in 2012, in Paris, France (with post-conference proceedings to appear in Springer LNCS). SCOPE FHIES seeks contributions from both the solution domain (engineering methods) and the problem domain (healthcare and health informatics). Solution-domain papers should present their methods in the context of a concrete application in healthcare, while problem-domain papers should be devised to educate the methods community about unique challenges and characteristics of the healthcare domain. Submissions should seek to inform and further the development, adaptation, evaluation and adoption of formally based and rigorous engineering methods in health care systems. Topics of interest include but are not limited to: * modelling, analysis, simulation and verification in health informatics; * design and verification techniques for software-based ICT and software-intensive medical devices; * application and integration of foundational methods from different disciplines in engineering and science to health informatics; * specific engineering challenges of ICT-based health service delivery in different settings, especially in the developing world. For a more detailed list of topics, see the symposium website. CATEGORIES We solicit high quality full submissions in the following categories: * original research contributions (16 pages max) * application experience, case studies and software prototypes (16 pages max.) * surveys, comparisons, and state-of-the-art reports (16 pages max.) * position papers identifying challenges and milestones of a research project (8 pages max.) We also invite short submissions for special sessions: * student papers on work in progress on an MSc or PhD project (4 pages max.) * tool demonstrations (2 pages max.) * proposals to organize birds-of-a-feather sessions or panels (2 pages max.) SUBMISSIONS Submissions should be in English, prepared in the LNCS format (http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html), and all page limits are measured in this format. Full submissions (those in the first four categories above) will be judged on the basis of originality, contribution to the field, technical and presentation quality, and relevance to the symposium; student papers will be judged on clarity of description and the promise of interesting results; tool demonstrations and BOF proposals will be judged on relevance to the symposium. All papers will be peer-reviewed by at least three program committee members. Papers should be submitted via EasyChair, at http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=fhies2013 Submission constitutes a commitment for at least one author to attend the symposium and present the paper, if it is accepted. PUBLICATION All accepted submissions will be distributed in a technical report at the Symposium. After the event, postproceedings will be published in Springer LNCS. Authors of all accepted full submissions will be invited to revise their papers, in order to resolve any larger issues raised during reviewing. Authors of accepted short submissions will be invited to submit full papers for review and LNCS publication too. In addition, a special issue of a suitable journal is planned, focusing on the overall objectives of FHIES: this will have an open call for contributions. IMPORTANT DATES Intention to submit: April 29th Submission deadline: May 6th Notification of acceptance: June 12th Delivery of preproceedings version: July 17th Symposium: August 21st-23rd Submission for postproceedings review: October 4th Notification of acceptance: October 11th Camera ready version: October 18th Publication of proceedings: December 23rd ORGANIZERS General chairs: * Zhiming Liu, United Nations University, MO * Jens Weber, University of Victoria, CA Programme chairs: * Jeremy Gibbons, University of Oxford, UK * Wendy MacCaull, St. Francis Xavier University, CA For the Programme Committee, see the website. However, many challenging conceptual and technological issues remain that require further research. Moreover, the advent of service-oriented and cloud computing has brought to the fore new dimensions, such as quality of service and robustness to withstand inevitable faults, which require established concepts to be revisited and new ones to be developed in order to meet the opportunities offered by those architectures. As software applications become themselves components of wider socio-technical systems, further challenges arise from the need to create and manage interactions, which can evolve in time and space, and rely on the use of resources that can change in non-computable ways. FACS 2013 is concerned with how formal methods can be used to make component-based development fit for the new architectures of today and the systems that are now pervading the socio-economic world. Formal methods have provided foundations for component-based software through research on mathematical models for components, composition and adaptation, and rigorous approaches to verification, deployment, testing, and certification. Whilst those avenues still need to be further explored, time is also ripe to bring new techniques to the fore, such as those based on stochastic models and simulation. Topics of Interest ============ The symposium seeks to address the development and application of formal methods in all aspects of software components and services. Specific topics include, but are not limited to: -- formal models for software components and their interaction -- stochastic techniques for modeling and verification -- simulation techniques for complex networks of interacting components -- formal aspects of services, service oriented architectures, business processes, and cloud computing -- design and verification methods for software components and services -- composition and deployment: models, calculi, languages -- formal methods and modeling languages for components and services -- model based and GUI based testing of components and services -- models for QoS and other extra-functional properties (e.g., trust, compliance, security) of components and services -- components for real-time, safety-critical, secure, and/or embedded systems -- industrial or experience reports, and case studies -- update and reconfiguration of component and service architectures -- component systems evolution and maintenance -- autonomic components and self-managed applications -- formal and rigorous approaches to software adaptation and self-adaptive systems Call for Papers ========= We solicit high-quality submissions reporting on (as related to topics mentioned here): [A] - original research contributions (18 pages max); [B] - applications and experiences (18 pages max); [C] - surveys, comparisons, and state-of-the-art reports (18 pages max); [D] - tool papers (6 pages max); In addition, we solicit submissions to the Doctoral Track of FACS 2013, in the form of abstracts (3 pages max) concisely capturing work in progress, related topic, context, research questions, envisaged contributions, and partial results. All submissions must be original, unpublished, and not submitted concurrently for publication elsewhere. Papers should be formatted according to the guidelines for Springer LNCS papers. CONFERENCE VENUE Istanbul is a city of unparalleled social and cultural richness. Serving as the capital of two mighty empires for sixteen centuries, Eastern Roman (or Byzantine) and Ottoman, and set squarely between two continents, Istanbul has cultures and traditions that blend East with West and Mediterranean with Anatolian. Each civilization that has made Istanbul its home has left its mark in sublime and splendid ways, and the result a city that gives one the feeling of universal history at every step. Istanbul has always been a meeting place, a crosspoint and a destination. With the Ataturk Istanbul International Airport, getting to and from Istanbul has never been easier. With a capacity of far over 25 million travelers per year Istanbul is less than a three-hour flight from most European cities. Istanbul has a second airport located on the Asian side of the city, Sabiha Gokcen International Airport, which is an important arrival point especially for low-cost airlines. Overall, Istanbul is served by more than 50 major airlines to hundreds of cities around the world. Workshops collocated with an international conference are one of the best venues for the presentation and discussion of preliminary work, novel ideas, and new open problems to a wide and interested audience. Collocated workshops also provide an opportunity for presenting specialised topics and opportunities for intensive discussions and project collaboration. The topics of the workshops collocated with ICLP 2013 may cover any area related to logic programming (e.g., theory, systems, environments, software-engineering aspects, extensions, alternative paradigms, applications), including cross-disciplinary areas. However, any workshop proposal will be taken under consideration. The format of the workshop will be decided by the workshop organisers, but ample time should be allowed for general discussions. Workshops can vary in length, but the optimal format are half-day workshops and full-day workshops. Workshop Proposal: ================== People interested in organising a workshop at ICLP 2013 are invited to submit a workshop proposal. Proposals should be written in English and about two pages in length. They should contain: * the title of the workshop; * a brief technical description of the topics covered by the workshop; * a discussion of the timeline and relevance of the workshop; * a list of some related workshops held in recent years; * the (preliminary) required number of half-days allotted to the workshop and an estimate of the number of expected attendees; * the names, affiliations, and contact details (email, web page, phone, fax) of the workshop organiser(s) together with a designated contact person; and * the previous experience of the workshop organising committee in workshop or conference organisation. Proposals should be in PDF format and submitted to the Workshop Chair (Hans Tompits) by email by March 11, 2013. Reviewing Process: ================== Each submitted proposal will be reviewed by the Workshop Chair and the Conference Program Chairs. Proposals that appear well-organised and that fit the goals and the scope of ICLP will be selected. The Chairs will notify the responsible organisers of their decision via email by March 18, 2013. The final length of each workshop will be planned according to the number of submissions each workshop receives. For each accepted workshop, the ICLP local organisers will prepare a meeting place and arrange the distribution of the workshop proceedings, which must be prepared by the workshop organisers. The workshop registration fees will be handled together with the conference fees. Workshop Organisers' Tasks: =========================== * Producing a "Call for Papers" for the workshop and posting it on the Internet and other means. A Web page URL which will be linked into the ICLP 2013 home page must be provided by April 8, 2013. * Providing a brief description of the workshop for the conference program. * Reviewing and deciding upon submitted papers. * Scheduling workshop activities in collaboration with the local organisers and the Workshop Chair. * Sending the workshop program and the workshop proceedings in pdf format to the Workshop Chair for distribution at the conference. * The use of the Computing Research Repository (CoRR) for the workshop proceedings is strongly recommended. Location: ========= All workshops will take place in the city of Istanbul at the site of the main conference. See the ICLP 2013 Web site for location details. Therefore, an increasing variety of heterogeneous models and languages with possible overlaps, redundancies, and inconsistencies are used in the various phases of software development. To cope with this complexity various approaches have been developed to re-organize information during systems development. Aspect-Oriented Modelling (AOM) restructures software along cross-cutting concerns and integrates them in a weaving or composition process. View-based modelling approaches address the problem with partial views that offer direct editing and re-integration rather than weaving or composing. The Orthographic Software Modeling (OSM) approach is a view-centric development process that generates all representations of a system from a single underlying model. Goal ---- The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners to foster a fruitful cross-pollination of ideas between the aspect-oriented community and the emerging view-based community. We encourage submissions on new modelling concepts as well as technical papers describing implementation approaches and formalisms. Topics ------ The workshop is interested in submissions on all topics related to model-driven development processes in particular from (but not limited to) the communities of view-based, aspect-oriented and orthographic software modelling. More specifically, this includes: - advantages and disadvantages of modelling approaches and paradigms - constraints and limitations for the applicability of modelling paradigms - approaches for avoiding inconsistencies, overlap and redundancies - bridging the gap between different modelling languages or MDSD views - generating, defining and evolving different views - composition of different models and modelling languages - round-trip engineering and co-evolution of different modelling languages - generating a single metamodel for multiple views or modelling languages - (bidirectional) transformations of metamodels - separating and re-integrating cross-cutting concerns or model weaving - dynamic information hiding for partial views Contributions ------------- Submissions to the workshop are possible in two categories: Research papers presenting original work on five to eight pages and position papers discussing innovative approaches on two to four pages. Accepted papers are planned to be published in the ACM Digital Library.
